Tiger's Eye: Stone of Courage, Clarity, and Protection

Tiger's Eye - 3 varieties

With its golden, shimmering reflections that evoke the eye of a watchful feline, tiger's eye is one of the most fascinating and powerful stones in lithotherapy. A stone of courage, confidence, and discernment, it accompanies those who wish to move forward with strength and clarity.

Origins and formation

Tiger's eye is a fibrous quartz variety belonging to the chatoyant family. Its silky appearance and luminous reflections — called chatoyancy or "cat's eye" effect — are due to the presence of crocidolite fibers (blue asbestos) gradually replaced by silica and iron oxide. It is this unique geological transformation that gives it its famous golden to brown reflections.

It is found mainly in South Africa (the world's leading producer), Australia, India, Burma, and the United States. Its hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale makes it a robust stone, ideal for everyday jewelry.

Properties in lithotherapy

  • Courage and self-confidence: Tiger's eye is pre-eminently the stone for people who doubt themselves. It strengthens will, boldness, and the ability to make decisions with assurance.
  • Mental clarity and discernment: It helps to see situations with lucidity, to distinguish the essential from the accessory, and not to be manipulated by emotions or external influences.
  • Protection: An ancestral protective stone, tiger's eye was worn by Roman soldiers in combat. It wards off negative energies and bad intentions.
  • Grounding and balance: Associated with the root and solar plexus chakras, it grounds in the present while stimulating vitality and motivation.
  • Abundance and prosperity: Its golden color is traditionally associated with attracting luck, professional success, and material abundance.
  • Stress management: It soothes anxieties related to the future, dissipates fears, and helps to stay centered during times of pressure.

Associated Chakras

Tiger's eye primarily acts on two chakras:

  • Root chakra (Muladhara): grounding, security, stability
  • Solar plexus chakra (Manipura): self-confidence, will, personal power

The different varieties of tiger's eye

There are several varieties of this stone, each with its energetic nuances:

  • Golden Tiger's Eye: the classic variety, with warm golden to brown reflections. A stone of courage and abundance.
  • Hawk's Eye (blue-gray): colder and more mental, it promotes global vision, clairvoyance, and communication.
  • Ox Eye (red): heat-treated, it stimulates vitality, passion, and physical energy.

How to wear tiger's eye?

Tiger's eye is ideally worn:

It harmonizes well with:

  • Black onyx to amplify protection
  • Citrine to strengthen abundance and positivity
  • Labradorite to combine discernment and intuition

Care and purification

  • Purification: Pass it under clear water for a few minutes, or purify it with white sage smoke. You can also place it on an amethyst cluster.
  • Recharging: Expose it to sunlight (it particularly appreciates solar energy, unlike many stones) or to the light of the full moon.
  • Physical cleaning: A soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners.
